Care instructions for pearls

To ensure the longevity and shine of your pearls, please follow the care instructions below:

  • Wear them with care: pearls are delicate and should be the last accessory you put on and the first you take off. Avoid contact with makeup, perfume and hairspray. It is important to wear pearls often so that they are moisturized and benefit from air circulation.
  • Cleaning: Wipe your pearls with a soft, damp cloth after each wear to remove any residue. Avoid using harsh chemicals or ultrasonic cleaners.
  • Storage: Store pearls in a soft cloth bag or in a separate compartment in your jewelry box to avoid scratches and tangling with other jewelry.
  • Avoid water: Do not immerse pearls in water or wear them while swimming or bathing, as this may weaken the silk thread and attack the nacre.
  • Regular care: Have your pearls restringed regularly by a professional jeweler, especially if you wear them frequently. To help you care for your pearls, we offer a free voucher every three years to re-string classic pearl strands or bracelets to ensure they last a long time.

FAQ for cleaning silver jewelry

Tarnish is the discoloration of silver that occurs naturally over time as the metal reacts with elements in the air to form a new compound on the surface. The resulting gray or black layer turns once bright, shiny surfaces dull and unsightly.

Anti-tarnish agents are one of the most important ingredients in Town Talk silver polish products. Our unique anti-tarnish agent bonds with silver and forms an invisible shield on its surface, protecting it from tarnishing substances. This protective layer means your silver will last much longer before tarnishing. When you use Town Talk products, you will find that you need to clean your silver less often.

No. The logo is printed with a special ink so you can use both sides of the cloth without any problems.

Town Talk silver polishing cloths will work as long as they are not washed. As you use them, they will begin to turn black. This is a chemical reaction rather than a build-up of dirt and shows that the cloth is doing its job. Store them in a dry environment and you will not need to replace them until they are completely black on both sides.

Silver polishing cloths are not suitable for use on pearls. This delicate gemstone needs its own gentle care products. We recommend our Pearl Care Kit for safe cleaning of your pearl jewelry.

FAQ for gold jewelry cleaning

No. The logo is printed with a special ink, so it is absolutely safe to use both sides of the cloth.

The Town Talk Gold Polishing Cloths will work as long as they are not washed. As you use them, they will turn black. This is a chemical reaction rather than a build-up of dirt and shows that the cloth is doing its job.
Store them in a dry environment and you don't need to replace them until they are completely black on both sides.

No, the cloth is not suitable for gold plates as it can wear away the coating over time.

There are 2 types of white gold - rhodium plated and non-rhodium plated, and for cleaning it is important to check which type it is. Older pieces are more likely to be rhodium plated - the plating is what gives the jewelry the "white" color of white gold. It wears off over time, and using the gold polishing cloth would accelerate the wear. For this reason, we recommend cleaning rhodium plated white gold jewelry with the Jewel Sparkle Tissues.
NB If you have a rhodium-plated piece of jewellery that you wear regularly, you will probably need to ask your jeweller to replace it every few years.
Some newer white gold jewelry pieces do not have a rhodium plate because preferences have changed. For these pieces, you can use the gold polishing cloth.

The Town Talk Gold Cloth is made from 100% woven cotton impregnated with cleaning and anti-tarnish agents. The main cleaning agent is Jewelers Rouge (which gives the red color). Jewelers Rouge is an ultra-fine abrasive that removes light scratches and polishes the surface; it will not remove deep scratches. The cloth applies the cleaning agents to the surface of the gold so that they do their job, leaving a smooth surface when the cloth is swept away.
